WORCESTER, Mass. - A new exhibit at the Worcester Art Museum focuses on what they call one of the most recognizable garments in American culture.

The display features more than 35 historic and contemporary baseball jerseys and baseball-inspired fashion.

The exhibition focuses specifically on the design evolution of baseball jerseys and their impact on wider national culture.

Erin Corrales-Diaz, the museum's assistant curator of American art, says each baseball jersey represents 170 years of design history.

"This exhibition was really developed in light of the move of the Worcester Red Sox and the construction of Polar Park,” Corrales-Diaz said. “And what a better way to celebrate this monumental occasion in our city than to have an exhibition that focuses on the intersection between sports and the visual arts."

The exhibition opens Saturday and will remain on view through Sept. 12.
