WORCESTER, Mass. - The travel industry is seeing a big demand with restrictions being lifted across the country and the world. AAA says they're seeing numbers higher than they did pre-pandemic.

Website vacation inquiries are currently at 169% higher than the same time in 2019, and their sales have outpaced the same time frame in 2019.

AAA Northeast's Managing Director of Travel Sales Chuck Nardozza says they're also seeing prices 40 to 60% higher than they have in the past due to demand.

"A lot of people have been quarantined for over a year and they haven't been able to travel. The landscape is different, the booking patterns are much different," Nardoza said. "We are seeing a short booking window and if you want to travel this summer our recommendation is to book early."

Nardozza says airport traffic is also getting back to normal. TSA announced they saw 1.9 million travelers on Memorial Day.

It's long awaited and welcomed news to airports like the Worcester Regional Airport, which announced last week they will resume air travel this summer.

"We are really encouraged, because we are now seeing numbers of people more comfortable in returning to fly," Massport's Director of Aviation Edward Freni said. "It's great we see it at Logan (airport) and we will soon see it (in Worcester)."

If you had a trip cancelled during the pandemic and have travel credits left over, Nardozza says to make sure know the date you have to use them by so you don't miss out.
