WORCESTER, Mass. - Allen Fletcher oversees the Worcester Public Market and said business was actually down during the Worcester Red Sox' last two home stands and it's mostly because customers had nowhere to park.

"Polar Park hasn't helped us yet. They take all the parking spaces on the street," Fletcher said. "The City is not enforcing the two hour limit."

Fletcher said the parking spots outside of the market have been taken up by fans for hours during games. He understands the Market may not be selling what fans are looking for before or after games, but the parking spots are still meant for customers.

"People want to have a beer before and after the game, but people don't necessarily come and buy cheese before the game," Fletcher said. "I understand that, but we still want our parking spaces."

The City says a comprehensive parking plan has been put forth before the City Council.  The plan is designed to keep on street parking for short-term use and direct long-term use to parking facilities.

The team says they are following the City's lead on parking, especially as capacity increases.  Polar Park can operate at full capacity starting Tuesday, but expects to seat even more fans once construction is finished in July.
