WORCESTER, Mass. - Muslims gathered in Worcester on Thursday to celebrate the end of Ramadan.
They gathered at the Islamic Society of Greater Worcester Thursday morning, many dressed in colorful, traditional clothes.
The Islamic holiday marks the end of the holy month of fasting. During the month, Muslims all over the world fast from dawn to sunset everyday, and abstaining from eating or drinking during that time.
Dr. Khalid Sadozai, the Islamic Society's Chairman of the Board of Trustees, says they're glad to be back together celebrating after a difficult year.
"Last year, due to COVID, we didn't have a celebration in the mosque. There was no congregation and we couldn't have our prayers during the month of Ramadan," Dr. Sadozai said. "But thank God this time we're having all the COVID protocols, and although the attendance is, we cannot have that many people, that's why we started having one, now we have two prayers."
Aside from fasting, the holy month is also for prayer, reflection and community.
