WORCESTER, Mass. - UMass Memorial Health is the education site for a new robot to help with knee replacements.
On Monday, surgeons began training in a simulated operating room suite in a semi-truck outfitted for this purpose.
Surgeons planned, set up, and practiced knee replacements on cadaver legs with the ROSA robot.
Doctors said the robot will help them with greater precision and accuracy in preparing the bone, ligament and soft tissue.
"As time goes by in orthopedics, technology changes and in order to really maximize the technology that’s available, here at UMass we do our best to pretty much stay on the cutting edge of what we're trying to accomplish with advances in orthopedic technology” said Dr. Daniel Mandell.
The robot can also be used for hip replacements.
