CHICOPEE, Mass. - State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey presented an award to the Chicopee Fire Department on Tuesday on behalf of Gov. Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karen Polito.

The award recognizes members of the Chicopee Fire Department for their heroic actions from a recovery and rescue effort that took place in the city back in December 2019.

Traditionally, there would be an annual celebration in Worcester. However, because of coronavirus, that was unable to happen. Ostroskey said the event is typically an opportunity to highlight great work in the fire service and excellence in performance.

Ostroskey went on to personally thank members of the fire department for their commitment to their communities, departments and families as they received the award on behalf of the state for their heroism.

The members receiving the award included Deputy Chief Wayne Lemay, Captain Peter Jeruisk, Lt. Nicholas Lacasse, Lt. Daniel Sousa, FF Jon Fisher, FF Donald Grey, FF Steven Laurin, FF Zachary Pirog, and FF Stephan Willett.
