WORCESTER, Mass. - With the start of their inaugural season finally here, the Worcester Red Sox have announced their 2021 Opening Day roster.
The WooSox will make their debut on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against the Trenton Thunder (aka the Buffalo Bisons) at Trenton Thunder Ballpark in Trenton, NJ. The teams will square-off for a six-game series through Sunday before the WooSox travel back to Worcester for their home opener at Polar Park on May 11 at 3:05 p.m. against the Syracuse Mets.
The WooSox will host a 12-game homestand from May 11 to May 23, including a pair of six-game series with Syracuse and the Buffalo Bisons.
There are currently 30 players listed on the Worcester Red Sox Opening Day roster, including two of the top five Boston Red Sox prospects: INF Jeter Downs and OF Jarren Dura.
The WooSox still must identify the players who will be considered members of the Taxi Squad and therefore inactive in order to get to the roster limit of 28 active players by tomorrow. Those inactive players can change on a daily basis.
Manager Billy McMillon took over the team in 2019 and was the last manager in Pawtucket Red Sox history. He now has the honor of being the first manager in Worcester Red Sox history. McMillon will be joined by hitting coach and Worcester native Rich Gedman.
