WORCESTER, Mass. - Polar Park is less than two weeks away from Opening Day and the City of Worcester is working to address parking and traffic flow around the stadium.
City leaders are encouraging people to take exits 16 and 14 off of I-290 when visiting Polar Park, and to avoid the Kelley Square exit (Exit 13) and its peanut-shaped roundabout.
The City says the goal is to have people drive by the 6,000 to 7,000 parking spots within a half-mile radius of the stadium.
A parking plan released earlier this week focuses on people attending games at Polar Park to park their vehicles in off-street lots and people visiting the Canal District shops and restaurants can use on-street parking.
Worcester City Manager’s Chief of Staff Jacob Sanders said, "I think there’s going to be fixes that are going to be needed anytime you launch something of this scale and magnitude. There’s going to be kinks to be worked out. That being said, we’re excited for 100% occupancy and we’re prepared for it.”
The Worcester Red Sox will be releasing a more in-depth parking plan next week. The 350-spot parking garage near Polar Park is expected to be complete early this fall.
