WORCESTER, Mass. - A big day for the YMCA of Central Massachusetts - as they deliver their one millionth meal to school children in Worcester.
In partnership with groups like the Worcester Public Schools nutrition program and the United Way of Central Mass, the YMCA has been delivering meals to children's homes since the start of the pandemic more than a year ago.
Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Massachusetts) says since many families rely on school served meals, it's important to make sure kids are still receiving healthy and nutritious food.
"This pandemic highlighted the disparities that exist in our community. And those disparities existed before the pandemic and now we need to not only get back to normal, we need to do better than normal,” McGovern said.
The YMCA delivers meals Monday through Friday and says they make sure to deliver enough meals on Fridays to help families through the weekend.
