CHICOPEE, Mass. - Monday was the first day that vaccines are available at the RiverMills Senior Center in Chicopee.
Anyone 18 and older is eligible to make an appointment to receive the Moderna vaccine. The vaccines are being administred at the lower level of the facility. The City said they still have appointments available for this week. Anyone who wants to book their first shot can do so by calling 413-534-3698.
Chicopee Mayor John Vieau, Council on Aging Director Sherry Manyak, along with staff from Holyoke Health Center and the senior center say they wanted to make sure everyone who wants a vaccine has access to one.
"Holyoke Health Center staff will screen people when they arrive at the clinic, direct them to a secure area to receive the vaccine. And RiverMills staff will monitor people for any adverse reactions for 15 to 30 minutes and provide each appointment before leaving [Monday]," Manyak said.
Meal pick-up and COVID-19 testing are still available at the senior center, but are taking place upstairs. Testing for coronavirus will continue to take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. Meal pick-up will continue as usual, but will be moved to the upstairs as the vaccination site continues to operate.
More details on meal pick-up can be found here.
