WORCESTER, Mass. - Basketball legend Bob Cousy will be honored in Worcester with a new statue.

Cousy is best known as a star point guard at the College of the Holy Cross who went on to a Hall of Fame career with the Boston Celtics. As a NBA player, Cousy fought against racism and helped start the NBA Players Association.

The bronze statue will sit outside the DCU Center on the plaza of the arena.

General manager Sandy Dunn says the sculpting of the statue is currently in process. The sculptor, Omri Amrany, is world renowned for his sports figures.

“He's done Michael Jordan. He's done Magic Johnson, Vince Lombardi, [Shaquille O’Neal].. He has a unique style which is basically sculpting the individuals in action,” Dunn said. “We are very excited about what it looks like and encourage people to come down because it's going to look awesome."

Dunn says the tentative date for the dedication is June 12 at 2 PM.

In 2008, a statue of Cousy was placed in front of the Luth Athletic Complex at Holy Cross.
