WORCESTER, Mass. - Even though the Worcester Railers aren’t on the ice, they're still working in the Worcester community.
The Boys and Girls Club of Worcester feeds roughly 250 families a week with their food pantry.
The Railers dropped off food there on Wednesday. The club makes donations every week through its Hockey Checks Hunger program.
Railers Chief Operating Officer Mike Myers says it wouldn’t be possible without corporate partners and owner Cliff Rucker and a desire to help the community get through the tough times.
Myers said, “Our corporate partners really step up and say ‘Hey we can't be with you in a game or typical sponsorship sense, but we still want to support the initiatives you guys are doing out in the community and the outreach you are doing.’ So Fidelity Bank and Fallon Health both stepped up to be part of our Hockey Checks Hunger."
Myers also thanked Price Chopper and the Junior Railers Ice Hockey Organization for donating food to the program.
