GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. - Varsity jackets may have gone out of style decades ago, but you can still find a huge collection of them at Rose Petal Vintage, a new vintage clothing store in downtown Great Barrington.

Owner Abby Pendergist opened Rose Petal Vintage last month.

"Mainly I'm looking for clothes that are like '70's and before, all the way up until like, well, I have maybe a couple pieces that are like 1910's, which is really fun," Pendergist said.

She started going to thrift stores with her friends back in high school, and her love for vintage clothing has grown ever since.

Pendergist said, "I started just building up this collection of either second hand or vintage clothing, and it became an issue where it was hoarding clothes too much. And so I was like, 'I should just try to sell this stuff.'"

Pendergist is always on the lookout for new items to add to her collection, and encourages people to bring in their old, unwanted clothes to the store.

She says they all have stories behind them, like the ones a woman recently shared with her.

"We met and we sat outside and she told me stories about all of her items, and she had pieces that she made for the Great Barrington fair, and she had all the old tags and ribbons that came with it, and it was so fun. That was like, 'Wow, this is so cool!'"

The first time business owner says it's going well so far and she hopes her shop will be here to stay.

Pendergist said, "I was a waitress and I was a barista, and now I've found this and it's like, this is something I'm good at and I really like doing, and I feel like that's all you really need to have in a job. You just need to enjoy it."
