WORCESTER, Mass. - The College of the Holy Cross opened its new Recreation and Wellness Center this week, replacing a more than 70-year-old field house on campus.

The 52,000-sq.foot Joanne Chouinard-Luth Center, also known as "The Jo,” will house the college's club and intramural sports, as well as its recreation, fitness and wellness programs.

Since reopening the campus to students this semester, the centers' basketball courts are temporarily being used as the school’s COVID-19 testing site five days a week.

Students are testing twice a week, and faculty and staff are testing at least once a week.

Michele Murray, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, said, “We will have the testing site open for as long as we need to be testing everybody. With any luck, everyone will get vaccinated before next semester and we will have the ability to turn this building into what it is meant to do."

The Jo is open to students, who are able to use all other areas of the facility.
