WORCESTER, Mass. - Worcester Fitness' annual Spin for Kids week-long fundraising event kicked off on Sunday morning.

Worcester Fitness teams up with Why Me & Sherry’s House to help raise money for the nonprofit while working up a sweat.

Funds from the 2021 Spin for Kids will go towards services which help Central New England families cope with childhood cancer.

Some donors spent sunday morning riding their bikes as part of the kickoff event, while others had the opportunity to participate from home due to coronavirus restrictions.

Over the last three years, Worcester Fitness has helped Why Me & Sherry’s House raise more than $100,000.

The pandemic canceled all of Why Me & Sherry’s House in-person fundraisers, making the spin for kids even more important this year.

Sherry’s House Director of Fundraising Rebecca Kuczarski, “We provide support services such as support groups and bereavement groups. We do family fun events. We do limited financial support and we also do a small residential program. Why Me doesn't receive any state or federal money, so all of the money raised is what goes to support Why Me Sherry's House. So these fundraisers are essential for us to be able to continue to provide that service."

Anyone looking to donate can do so at whyme.org. Spin for Kids goes until next weekend. Those participating are encouraged to ride 100 miles during the week.
