With snow and ice in the forecast, Worcester's Department of Public Works is urging people to drive carefully.
Commissioner Jay Fink said they'll have about 50 vehicles treating roads after midnight.
He expects the worst of the freezing rain to be between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m.
The city will use salt on the main roadways and a sand mixture on side streets.
"Some of the side streets may still have some snow on them. When you get that freezing rain that gets on the snow, it’s just going to create ice. So the best thing we can do is create a friction layer and that’s where we are going to be using the sand," said Fink.
He said his crew has had a busy winter, but they're prepared.
