MARLBOROUGH, Mass. - A partnership between a city and a technical school is helping provide trained volunteers to administer the COVID-19 vaccine.

Assabet Valley Regional Technical school students in the Practical Nursing Program are getting some of the 540 hours of clinical experience they need by giving out shots.

The school is working with the Marlborough Department of Public Health.

Programs Director Ellen Santos said it’s a great way to have students get out in the community.

"There's been a lot of talk over who is going to do the vaccine and how are we going to train people and I just want people to know that we have a well trained workforce across the state. There are 15 practical nurse programs in technical schools across the state that each serve their regions an those are great resources," Santos said.

"Being able to help start vaccinating everyone is an amazing thing to protect our community," said student Amanda Ryder.

Santos encourages other cities and towns to do the same thing. She called it a win win for students and their communities.
