An inside look at the old Worcester County Courthouse shows off new apartments which are almost ready to be moved into.
Tuesday, development firm Trinity Financial showed Spectrum News 1 some units which are expected to be available this month.
The Boston company began work to redevelop the courthouse in 2019.
It had been vacant for more than a decade.
Trinity said while there are challenges dealing with an older building, its age gives it character.
"Very challenging, but it's what attracted us to the project. It’s an iconic building. It had to be saved somehow so it was worth the challenge. We had to match the windows. All 380 windows had to be replaced. They were unsalvageable so we had to match brand new windows to windows built in 1840. There's a lot challenge in doing stuff like that," said Michael Lozano, Vice President of Development for Trinity Financial.
The project will also feature a public exhibit to world champion bicyclist Major Taylor, a club room, a fitness center and a makerspace.
The first residents are expected to move in next week and the rest of the units will be finished in a couple of months.
