WORCESTER, Mass. - One by one, volunteers trudged through snow on Saturday to put 200 wreaths by the graves of veterans resting in Worcester's Hope Cemetery.
Robert Ela put a wreath by his great uncle, who died while serving in Vietnam.
"It feels great to honor veterans, in any war. They served our country, they did what they had to do. They died, they did it for our country. They did it for freedom,” Ela said.
Another fallen hero remembered Saturday was Private First Class Brian Moquin Jr., who died while serving in Afghanistan.
The wreaths were donated through the Wreaths Across America Program. Worcester's Civil Air Patrol put on the ceremony.
Joseph Zwirblia, Commander of Worcester Cadet Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, said, “It's about remembering our veterans. This is a teachable moment for our cadets and our guests here today. It's something that's patriotic that we do in December every year."
Worcester Civil Air Patrol’s Jaycee Campos said, “You’re honoring veterans that have fought wars for years, especially the first World War and the second."
Two cub scout troops also helped with the annual tradition.
Benjamin Dumont, with Cub Scout Pack 105 in Paxton said,"They died and they served our country, we should honor them. "
And each wreath shows that the veterans are remembered, too.
