Police are investigating a fatal crash in Uxbridge.

Two people were killed when their vehicles hit head-on Wednesday morning.

Police say a car traveling west on Route 16 and a dump truck traveling in the opposite direction collided.

The roadway was closed for several hours as crews worked at the scene.

Chief Marc Montminy said there are not many accidents on this stretch of road and it's more unusual to have a head-on collision.

“We’re not at a point yet in the investigation where we can tell which vehicle crossed the line, but we believe one vehicle veared into the other vehicle’s path and they struck head-on. We are too early in the investigation to know if speed was a factor, it may well have been,” said Chief Montminy.

The crash is under investigation. Police are gathering information from a witness.
