ADAMS, Mass. - Michele Aubin is a hair stylist with almost 30 years of experience.
When she found out the salon where she worked was going to close, it was the perfect opportunity to finally open her own place.
"I was in my hometown of Adams, driving by and saw a sign in the window saying 'For Sale' on this beautiful building, and it was already a hair salon. And basically, I made some calls, and you know, a few months later, here I am."
The new salon, called Berkshear Hair Trendz, opened this week.
Aubin says she's most excited about being able to work in Adams and to give back to the community she's been a part of for so long.
"In this economy, right now, everyone is raising their prices. I don't want to do that. I want to make sure people can afford to come in, feel great, and look beautiful," Aubin said.
Aubin wasn't sure she'd be able to open because of the spike of COVID-19 cases in the area and she says she's trying to do her part to make sure another shutdown isn't necessary.
"Am I a little bit nervous about it? Yes, I'm not going to lie. But I'm just hoping and praying that things go better," Aubin said. "I've got to do my job here and and make sure all my clients, my number one thing for them is I want them to be safe."
Aubin says it's been a little weird working by herself and she hopes to hire one or two stylists in the near future, but, for now, she says having only one customer at a time is for the best.
"Right now, my clients feel very happy and safe," Aubin said. "Maybe at the beginning of next year we'll do something different, but yeah, I think for right now, this is the way we're going to do it."
