WEBSTER, Mass. - A new addiction care center will provide immediate treatment for people suffering with alcohol and substance use disorders.

The center run by Harrington Healthcare System is the first facility of its kind in Massachusetts.

It's located at Harrington's Webster campus.

The company says it’s been in the works for almost a year, but is particularly important now because of spikes in substance use and relapses during the pandemic.

"Every night we see overdoses in our emergency room and I think this is one of the reasons why we wanted to do it. We’re fortunate people are able to get to the emergency department and use Narcan and other things to reverse the overdose but then what happens the next day," said Greg Mirhej, VP of Behavioral Health at Harrington Healthcare System.

"They’ll be evaluated by a doctor first and that doctor can determine what medication makes the most sense for that patient but our doctors can also start people on medications to treat mental health systems too," said Christina Beesley, Director of Outpatient Behavioral Health Services at Harrington Healthcare System.

Anyone seeking treatment can make an appointment to be seen within 24 hours.

All Massachusetts and Connecticut insurance plans are accepted.
