PITTSFIELD, Mass. - The City of Pittsfield is seeking the public’s help in putting together a bicycle facilities master plan to increase the biking infrastructure here in the downtown and surrounding areas.
The goals of the project are to identify popular destinations, new dedicated bike routes, and possible locations for bike-share facilities.
There is an interactive map on the project website where people can enter a preferred route or destination.
The plan will most likely call for more bike lanes, like this new one on North Street, but City Planner C.J. Hoss said there’s a lot of other infrastructure improvements to consider as well.
“Whether it’s safe bike storage lockers, bike racks, maintenance stations, for people who are commuting, access to showers, just thinking about all these things that are needed to really provide a safe, comprehensive network around the city," Hoss said.
There will be two more public information sessions on the plan this winter, one in December and one in February, and the goal is to present the completed plan to the mayor and city council in March.
