the Greater Worcester Land Trust is urging people to get outside this week. "Hike Worcester Week" is a program designed to raise awareness of the outdoor opportunities Worcester has to offer. Hikers can enjoy as many trails as they want and help raise money for trail maintenance. Executive Director of the Greater Worcester Land Trust Colin Novick says the city has dozens of hiking trails, and with the fall foliage nearing its peak in this part of the state, it's a great time to enjoy a part of Worcester unspoiled by development.
Novick, "There are dozens of miles of trails in Worcester. If you drive (Interstate) 290 all you're going to see are the old factory buildings in downtown and that's your vision of the city. However, Worcester was built a long time ago and the outskirts of the city are still wild forest land. We still have moose and bear and deer and skunk wandering around. And it's kind of neat to go out in those wilder planes while still being in the second largest city in New England."
In eleven communities in Central Massachusetts, the Greater Worcester Land Trust maintains dozens of miles of trail in the more than 3,000 acres under its watch. Hike Worcester Week run through October 16th.
