Worcester City Councilor At-Large Donna Colorio is asking the City Manager for a report on Worcester's rodent control program.

She's also asking the City to report on ways they're controlling the overpopulation of rats, as well as areas which have seen an increase in rodents.

Colorio says construction across the city has forced rats into some neighborhoods, and getting a comprehensive report now is crucial before the problem starts to snowball.

"Rats have a three-year life span. And in that three years they can have up to five litters, up to 14 offspring. I think during that time, it comes out to roughly 70 rats per year. If we don't do something about the population of rats, they're going to just multiply and we're going to have a really really bad rat problem in Worcester," Colorio said.

Colorio's order goes in front of the City Council onTuesday.
