Bay State Brewing is surviving through the COVID-19 pandemic, so they're throwing a bit of a celebration.

The local brewery is hosting their own Oktoberfest and having Mayor Joe Petty tap the first keg, just like the event held in Munich, Germany.

Co-founder Chip Jarry says it will be a family-friendly event and will have a full German menu with a special Oktoberfest beer called "Bectoberfest".

Bay State opened their tap room just a few weeks before the state shut down indoor dining and Jarry says they stayed open for takeout.

“We’re blessed with having a kitchen, so we had food from day one. We did takeout food and we took all the beer we had in the tanks, we had a mobile canner come in and canned everything up. So we were able to do to-go beer and to-go food. Business was anemic but we had a lot of friends, family, and customers who came in and continued to support us," says Jarry.

He hopes to expand the event after the pandemic and hopes to include more local breweries.
