A piece of Boston in Worcester on Sunday, as a Princeton man runs the virtual Boston Marathon for the Be Like Brit Foundation.
This is Jonnie Coutu's first Boston Marathon. He raised about $10,000 for Be Like Brit so far. He ran by their headquarters on Sunday morning as his mile nine marker.
Coutu's and Be Like Brit's running coach, Rick Muhr, says the past several months have been physically and psychologically tough for all runners. They had to come to terms with not getting the traditional marathon experience and had to start their training all over again because of the months-delay.
Muhr said, "Jonnie has just been so positive and he has been a force, rallying his teammates around, seeing this journey through to its completion."
Coutu's wife, Emily, said, "We are so proud of him, he's been training for, it feels like ten years, becase the marathon was canceled not once, but twice."
This is the fourth year runners have raised funds for Be Like Brit. The foundation supports children in Haiti with a permanent and nurturing home.
Be Like Brit co-founder Cherylann Gengel said, "Someone like him who decided they want to run for Be Like Brit and raise this amount of money knowing it goes directly to helping Haiti, the children of Haiti, honestly, I've already cried three times this morning just thinking about it."
