The pandemic hasn’t stopped people from getting away to enjoy their Labor Day in a new ZIP Code.

AAA Northeast conducted a small social media survey and found about half of those who responded had holiday travel plans. They say there was plenty of traffic over the weekend, even though a significant number of people likely stayed home where they felt safest. AAA recommends people “get in their car, and don’t go far” to have a safe and sanitary road trip.

Mary Maguire, Director of Public and Legislative Affairs for AAA, says, “One thing we found in the survey is that the majority of people did plan to drive, so no surprise there because it’s easier to control your environment when you’re in your own car. We also found that about 70% of those surveyed indicated they would not be staying in a hotel. So again, I think that indicates that people are trying to control their surroundings.”

AAA expects significant traffic throughout the day and reminds people to take it slow, as holiday weekends log the highest number of crashes.
