After more than three decades serving her city, Worcester Fire Lieutenant Annmarie Pickett is retiring.

Pickett is well known for her work educating people about the importance of working smoke detectors. She's served as a firefighter and as a paramedic in the city.

Pickett was nationally recognized for her work leading the public education and community outreach division.

On Friday, she received a Key to the City.

“I’ve been truly blessed with getting messages out to people that will make a difference like working smoke alarms, practice your escape plan will more than double your chances if there is a fire in your house," Lt. Pickett said.

Pickett was one of the first female firefighters in the city. She started with two other women in 2000.
