WORCESTER - State officials are providing guidance this week on how to deal with positive cases in schools this fall. The 19-page report includes a two-week quarantine and remote learning for students and faculty who come in close contact with someone who tests positive, as well as guidance for symptomatic individuals, and the possibility of multiple cases.

Meanwhile, Worcester Public Schools held a second community meeting Wednesday night. Parents are expressing concerns and asking questions about tentative reopening plans. Parent Nick D’Andrea says he wants to see his kids back in school to socialize and have direct instruction with teachers. He says parents are looking for answers, but he commends the school department for their work.

D’Andrea says, “Luckily, myself, I have a very understanding job where if I needed to say, ‘Hey listen, they’re doing full remote. I got to be home.’ I can do that. But that’s not the case for everybody and having conversations with people, someone said they may have to quit their job just so they can be home with their kids.”

D’Andrea says he would like to see a reopening plan for schools similar to the state’s reopening with a plan to return to a new normal.
