WORCESTER - A special ceremony gets the Worcester Fire Department's newest engine ready for action on Thursday.
The new 2020 E-ONE pumper replaces the 1998 E-ONE.
The new engine will go into service later this month and the old truck will become a spare.
City Manager Ed Augustus said, “The people of Worcester know the fire department is on the job 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. They need the pieces of equipment that allow them to reliably show up when someone is in need -- whether it be a traffic accident, or structure fire, or medical emergency, whatever it may be. They need to be able to meet that reliability our residents expect. This investment, this piece of apparatus is going to ensure they do that."
The new engine was blessed by the WFD chaplain, Reverend Walter Riley.
