Twenty years ago Saturday, Molly Bish, a 16-year-old lifeguard from Warren, went missing from Comins Pond.
Two decades later, it hasn’t gotten easier for her family.
"Twenty years missing Molly, we feel the same as the day she went missing. You know, I wish I could say it gets better or easier. I think you sort of get used to it," said Molly's older sister, Heather.
It was three years before Molly’s body was found, and no one has ever been charged in the case.
But, Bish's sister says they continue to work with the District Attorney's Office in an effort to find her killer.
"It will never be OK that someone left my sister on the side of a mountain. I will always look for this person, turn every rock over and follow every path," Bish said, adding for the last 20 years, they’ve been in an uphill battle.
The crime scene was not preserved, because at first, Molly's disappearance wasn't categorized as a homicide.
Bish is currently working on legislation, advocating for familial DNA searching in Massachusetts, hoping it can give them a lead in the case.
Bish said, "If it has a partial match, that means someone in that family did this crime. And it just points the direction for law enforcement."
And on the 20th anniversary of her disappearance, Molly’s family is asking anyone who might have a piece of information, no matter how big or small, to get in contact with the authorities.
Because it might be the piece they need to solve this tragic puzzle.
"If there is something someone didn't think was important or maybe relationships change and someone feels different about giving information, it might really be the 1 piece that puts this bigger picture together," Bish said.
Every year, Molly's family would have a vigil on the anniversary of her disappearance. But unfortunately, COVID-19 has forced them in a different direction. This year, they will be driving around the pond where she went missing.
Anyone with any information on this case is urged to contact the Massachusetts State Police tip line at (508) 453-7575.
