WORCESTER - College of the Holy Cross coaches and athletic staff were notified on Wednesday in an email sent by college President Rev. Philip Boroughs that there would be furloughs coming.

According to sources, the email said everyone will be notified on Thursday, July 2 who will be furloughed. Coaches who are furloughed are no longer employees of the college and therefore not allowed to recruit.

The Fall athletic season begins in two months when everyone returns to campus, so if fall coaches get furloughed it will likely put teams behind in preparing for pre-season practices and games and communicating with their players.

The furloughs could also effect the strength and conditioning staff who have been working with student athletes remotely since March when the campus shut down.
