NORTHBRIDGE - Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire in one of Cental Massachusetts' most historic mill complexes this morning.
The Northbridge Fire Department, along with crews from Uxbridge and Grafton, responded to the Riverdale Mills complex on Wednesday morning after a commercial alarm sounded for a duct fire. The fire was quickly extinguished.
Northbridge Fire Department Chief David White said the stakes are higher anytime a call comes in for an old, historic mill building.
Chief White said, "Anytime you're dealing with a mill building, obviously there's a high degree of stress with it. They're old buildings, they burn fast when when they get going. This is a fully sprinklered building which is good. Still, take all the precautions to make sure that we are fully covered."
No injuries were reported. Workers at Riverdale Mills were able to return to work once the fire department finished operations.
