PITTSFIELD _ In the wake of the racial equality and justice protests across the country, Radiance Yoga owner Shannon Ashcroft knew she wanted to get involved.

“For me, this was something that Radiance and myself were going to take a stand on, and we were going to find a way that we were going to contribute to the positive momentum," Ashcroft said.

This week, the studio is donating all of the revenue from their online classes to the Berkshire branch of the N.A.A.C.P.

Ashcroft says she’s proud of her staff for their support.

“This is a sacrifice for both the business and the teachers, but Radiance Yoga is going to survive this. And I think that the racial and social injustice right now is a bigger issue than Radiance Yoga’s financials," Ashcroft said.

The N.A.A.C.P. has organized several protests in the Berkshires in the past weeks. Ashcroft says they chose to donate to them because they share many of the same values.

“The N.A.A.C.P. does work to ensure diversity in our schools, and our workplaces. They have a program where they give funds to college students of color," Ashcroft said.

Ashcroft says she wants to make sure this moment isn’t short-lived and is looking for ways to increase diversity in the predominantly white yoga industry.

“I’m going to work every day to observe our organization and take steps to make sure we’re being more inclusive," Ashcroft said. "And any ideas or any feedback, I’m all ears.”
