A Central Massachusetts gym is remaining open despite a court ordering them to close. Going against Governor Charlie Baker's order and four phase reopening plan, Prime Fitness and Nutrition in North Oxford reopened their doors on May 18. Owner David Blondin was issued multiple warnings by the town's Board of Health to close his doors in accordance with state guidelines or face fines. After refusing to close the town sued him. Today Blondin sys he is still open and will not close his doors. He says he will appeal the judge's decision.
Blondin, "Financially I mean not just me but every other small business is struggling right now, but number two is enough is enough. You know you can do all these things but you can't work out which promotes health, promotes immunity, promotes well-being and mental health. As each day goes on more and more support comes through. More and more people contact us people keep donating and we're starting to see our regular members start to come back on a regular basis now. Next steps keep appealing and we'll climb all the way up to federal court if we have to."
Under Massachusetts' four phase reopening plan, gyms and fitness centers will be able to reopen in phase 3 which wouldn't begin until June 29 at the earliest if public health data supports it.
