WHITINSVILLE - A Massachusetts bank is celebrating it's 150th birthday during a pandemic.

UniBank is based in Whitinsville and while they are recognizing their work and accomplishments -- they also realize now is not the time for celebrations.

As of early May - the bank has secured nearly 600 paycheck protection program loans totaling more than $100 million.

UniBank says customers whose finances are impacted by the coronavirus pandemic are being consulted on a one-on-one basis.

"People have been real pleased. Our long term customers came to us quickly seeing if we can help out. As people knew there were challenges, not for us but through the program itself. This was one of the differentiators, people who work at UniBank work here for the mission. We had people here at 1, 2, 3 o’clock in the morning because that was the only way we could get our loans through the system. When the rest of nation was asleep, we were up working. People appreciated our quick turn around on those," said CEO Michael Wlch.

Of the nearly 600 loans secured - 500 were for less than $350,000 and eight were for $2 million or more.
