Massport Board Chairman Lew Evangelidis says the coronavirus pandemic has been a massive hit to the Worcester Regional Airport. Some flights are down to one, or even zero passengers according to Evangelidis. As a result, he says some of the airlines flying out of the city are looking for assistance until the pandemic ends. The Department of Transportation denied Jet Blue's request to stop services in Worcester last month, but the other airlines are hoping for a different result.

Evangelidis, "They have to go to the Department of Transportation to get a waiver to stop flights from certain cities or to certain cities. But right now in Worcester, Jet Blue is continuing to serve daily flights to New York (Kennedy) and the numbers are so low."

Evangelidis says even with the future up in the air he's confident the airport can rebound.
