Worcester city leaders got a firsthand look at the progress being made at Polar Park.
The Gilbane Hunt Construction team led a tour of the construction site for what will be the future home of the Worcester Red Sox. It included where the left field foul pole, the pitchers mound and home plate will be.
The team also gave an update on what is next in terms of construction. On site project executive Neil Benner says people will start to see the ballpark come together sooner rather than later.
Benner, "We are coming up on a very important milestone and that's the start of structural steel. That is always a huge milestone on any project because it is really when the shape of the building starts to become visible."
Worcester Mayor Joseph Petty on the tour, "I thought the trip was very exciting, looking at where the left field pole was going to be and the home plate and pitchers mound and it's going to be interesting coming back at the end of April and see the right field wall done and home field pretty much ready to go."
The city says construction for the ballpark is on schedule. The steel structures will start going up later this month and are expected to be done by the end of April.
