One person has died after a fire in Oxford Thursday afternoon. Oxford Fire Department Deputy Chief Jon Belanger, "We got there and found a very heavy smoke condition in the building with a little bit of fire. We made entry into the building and began firefighting operations, and while doing a search of the building, we came across a victim."

State and local investigators could be seen looking through the garage hours after the fire. The state's Department of Fire Services says the person was rescued from a two-story garage and taken to the hospital where they later died from their injuries.

Oxford Chief Laurent McDonald, "There was no reported victim at the time of the call. And due to the time of day and everything, you'd expect an unoccupied garage or storage facility. But nevertheless, we do a primary search on every incident."

Although only one alarm, the location of the fire did provide some challenges for the Oxford Fire Department.

Deputy Chief Belanger, "We had to call in some mutual aid from surrounding towns with another tanker truck to get us some additional water resources on scene because we didn't have the hydrants available."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
