SPRINGFIELD - Thirty-two men and women from across Western and Central Massachusetts graduated from the Recruit Firefighter Class on Friday.

The ceremony recognized the class members for their hard work and achievements in the academy. One by one, the new members of the fire departments were called up to receive their certificate of completion.

The student spokesperson, Kyle Abt was among those who graduated. Abt will be joining the Chicopee Fire Department. He says the long hours and training were well worth it and he is ready to start work.

"We had to take a long written test, a physical examination, its about over a year process just to get hired," said Abt. "I am looking forward to starting and getting to my first day of work."
