SHREWSBURY - Shrewsbury's Community Animal Hospital made an important donation to a Massachusetts State Police K-9 on Thursday.
K-9 Officer "Hulk" received a tactical safety vest. It's bullet and stab proof and made of the same ballistic material as a police officer's vest.
It also has padding to protect the dog against blunt force trauma. The hospital's clients and staff raised $2,400 for the vest over the last year and a half.
Mass. State Police Sgt. David Stucenski with the Tactical K9 Unit said, "This gives us vital equipment we weren't able to fund. With their donations, we can buy these vests."
Kelly Robinson, a volunteer with Massachusetts Vest-a-Dog said," We do events all over the state raising money. We can't do it without donations from the public and all of our volunteers. It's how we keep going."
The Massachusetts Vest-a-Dog program is a nonprofit, all volunteer program providing more than 500 protective vests to local K9 officers.
