OXFORD - The state's department of transportation [MassDOT] will be releasing an update on how they intend to improve Route 20 and make it safer.
Specifically, MassDOT will be looking at a three-mile stretch from Route 12 in Oxford to Richardson Corner Rd. in Charlton.
Homeowners in the area said the speeding and dangerousness of the road has been a problem for quite some time. They really want to see MassDOT do something fast.
Kyle Carpenter, of Oxford, said, "We have a three-year-old that lives here. Sometimes the safety factor of having a picket fence in your front yard isn't the best thing. It will be enough to slow a car down, but not from 60, 70, 80 MPH they come down the road."
Another resident said, "We have a lot of heavy traffic here. They go up and down the street pretty fast at times. It's a traffic hazard. People stop and get run over out here."
The plan to improve Rt. 20 and make things safer really picked up steam back in 2015 after a woman and her nine-month-old tragically lost their lives in a car crash on that same stretch.
