WORCESTER - A Holy Cross student athlete spent the start of her Christmas Vacation breaking records.
Grace Rett rowed for 62 hours straight and now holds the title for World's Longest Continual Row in the Heavyweight 19 & Under Competition.
She set the record for the Concept 2 longest continual row in 62 hours and three seconds. She rowed 382,293 meters (237.55 miles).
The college sophomore could row at any speed and was allowed 10 minutes each hour for a bathroom break.
She said the support from her family, friends and teammates helped make the time go by faster.
"I [didn't] have to go a certain pace, but if you look at all of my times, they all get faster when there are visitors here. Just having people to talk to just helps and their support means the world."
Rett is studying to be a sports psychologist and thought breaking the record would be a great test of mental toughness.
Grace's sister, Brianne Rett, said, "When she told me she was going to do this, it didn't phase me at all. If anyone was going to do this, it would be my sister. I had no doubt that she would be able to do this. If she starts something, she's going to finish it."
Rett said she now plans to sleep until Christmas.
