SPECTRUM NEWS VIDEO: This weekend, young literary explorers embarked on a trip through history for story hour at the Howe Public Library in Albany. Author Nakia Tillman shared stories, lived-experiences, of her grandmother 'Lil Margie,' as told in her book "The Adventures of Lil Margie." In the book, Tillman's grandmother explains how she survived living in the segregated south. Tillman says her background in early childhood education showed the importance of teaching kids literacy at a young age. "It's so important now for parents to really engage with their kids and understand they didn't have that luxury back then but we do," Tillman said. Lil Margie's stories hold lessons for adults too. Tillman hopes through Lil Margie the passion to learn the past remains present in everyone. For details on where you can purchase "The Adventures of Lil Margie," click here.
