WORCESTER, Mass. - A ceremony at Polar Park honored Worcester's own Billy Riley.

Riley is the manager for Saint John's Food for the Poor, and has run the pantry and soup kitchen for nearly a decade.

He said it's a team effort to feed sometimes hundreds of people.

Saturday, Riley was able to get his own tour of the new ballpark and was honored on the field by the Worcester Red Sox.

The team also set up donations for the food pantry with a QR code visitors could scan while at the game.

"We're partnering up with Polar Beverages all season long to recognize nonprofits, community groups, and people doing outstanding work in the community,” WooSox VP of Baseball Operations Joseph Bradlee said. “And Bill Riley is certainly one of those people. When we moved to Worcester, Bill's name was one of the first we heard. 'Hey, you have to get in touch with Bill."'

"WooSox Nation has really come through for Saint John's Food for the Poor,” said Riley. “But I'm looking forward to maybe by the end of the summer getting some of the players down there to volunteer, give back to some of the people, the less fortunate people.”

One of Riley's high school baseball teammates is the current WooSox hitting coach, Rich Gedman.
