DAYTON, Ohio — After closing airspace over the weekend because of more suspected drone sightings over the weekend, Wright-Patterson Air Force base said more sightings occurred at the start of the week.

According to the base, small unmanned aerial systems were spotted near and above Area A and Area B during late evening Monday and early Tuesday morning.

Unlike this past weekend, the airspace was not affected by the incursions.

Installation leaders said none of the incursions affected base residents, faciliites or assets.

"The number of systems has fluctuated, and they have ranged in sizes and configurations," the base said in a news release. "Our units continue to monitor the airspace and are working with local law enforcement authorities and mission partners to ensure the safety of base personnel, facilities and assets."

Last Friday the base closed its airspace for approximately four hours late Friday into early Saturday, said Robert Purtiman, a base spokesperson. It was the first time drones have been spotted at the base. Purtiman did not say how many drones were flying in the area over the weekend, but that they ranged in size and they did not affect any base faciliites.

Base leaders ask residents in the area to call local police or Security Forces if they see anything suspicious, to include sUAS's or drone activity.
