GOVERNOR SURVEYS TORNADO DAMAGE 

Gov. Andy Beshear is expected to travel to Hopkinsville and Graves and Hopkins counties Monday to survey damage and recovery efforts from storms both over the weekend and last month.

The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-2 tornado touched down in Hopkinsville on New Year’s Day, along with tornadoes in Madison, Taylor, Barren and Warren counties. 

More than a dozen counties are working to recover from deadly tornadoes that struck the state in December. 

LEGISLATIVE SESSION BEGINS

Tuesday, Kentucky lawmakers begin the 2022 legislative session in Frankfort.

Redistricting will be a top priority for the first week. 

Legislators will also be working on a budget, and are likely to address raises for state workers, COVID-19 relief measures, abortion, education reform and unemployment. 

Republicans hold supermajorities in both chambers. The 60-day session ends in mid-April. 

STATE OF THE COMMONWEALTH

On Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear will deliver the State of the Commonwealth address.

He is expected to speak about the state’s budget and other priorities. 

That’s likely to include the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic and help for Kentuckians impacted by tornadoes. 

The address is scheduled for 7 p.m. 

BENEFIT CONCERT FOR TORNADO VICTIMS 

On Friday, BGStrong. US is hosting a benefit concert for Warren County families impacted by the Dec. tornado. 

It will be held at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center in Bowling Green at 6:30 p.m.

The concert will include music by local performers and tickets are $25-$35.

Organizers say 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the tornado relief fund in Warren County.
