BOONE COUNTY, Ky. — Many faces are migrating through the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International airport (CVG) for December holidays. CVG officials report that traffic volumes during this time will be up 90% from what they saw in 2019.

  • Busier travel days are Monday 12/20 and Sunday 1/2 at the airport

  • Federal regulation requires masks inside the airport

  • CVG officials say to arrive two hours prior to your flight

Officials warn that busier travel days will likely be Monday, Dec. 20, 2021 and Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022. They also reported that busier departure times are between 5-7 a.m. with the most packed arrival times falling between 10-11 p.m.

Inside the CVG airport, Alfonso Peterson said he and his family are traveling in to the area from Sacramento.

“We caught a late flight. The flight was full, I will say it was full but not too crazy. Getting through security was pretty easy," Peterson said.

Among busier times and days to battle is the emerging new variant of COVID. Omicron has made its way around many areas across the country and globally – including areas in northern Kentucky. Peterson and his family were all masked up for his first flight in years.

“First time in two years on a plane! Fully masked up, it is tougher than I expected but I think it’s definitely worth it to stay safe," he said.

Masks are a federal regulation requirement inside of airports right now. Signs are also posted reminding people of this regulation, and once in a while there's an audio announcement asking people to mask up and do their part.

“Happy holidays! Hope everyone stays safe. Mask up and keep your loved ones safe," Peterson said.
