KENTUCKY — This week in Kentucky, leaders are expected to get an update on the Department of Justice's investigation into Louisville Metro Police Department, a road closure will impact drivers and a change for making phone calls in parts of Kentucky goes into effect.
DOJ Investigation
Monday afternoon, Louisville Metro Council is expected to get an update on the Department of Justice’s investigation into Louisville Metro Police Department and Metro Government.
A special meeting of the Committee of the Whole is set for 4 p.m. in council chambers and is open to the public.
Bridge Closure
A traffic change on the Sherman Minton Bridge begins Wednesday, lasting nine days.
I-64 West will be closed from 3 a.m. Wednesday to 3 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5.
Crews will be working on deck patching.
Pre-trial Conference
On Thursday, a pre-trial conference is set for former LMPD detective Brett Hankison, the only officer to face charges in the raid on Breonna Taylor’s apartment.
He faces three counts of wanton endangerment related to the shots investigators say he fired blindly into a neighboring apartment during the raid.
A judge reduced Hankison's bond last month.
Phone number changes
Ten-digit dialing is now in effect in Lexington and Northern Kentucky.
The FCC says you will have to enter the three-digit area code and the seven-digit phone number to make a local call within the 859 area code.
According to the FCC, the change is to help establish “988" as a new nationwide phone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
Firefighters distribute candy
In Bullitt County, Zoneton firefighters will be heading out to neighborhoods Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, passing out candy to children in Halloween costumes.
Before the pandemic, the fire station used to host an open house, but leaders say they’re adapting and taking Halloween to the community.
